Call for entries - "Knitting graffiti"

Do you want to show your knitting in public for all to see? Do you see knitting as bringing beauty and want to show the world?  If so, we need you! We are looking for knitters to make tree cosies for our pre-WWKIP publicity.  Get the pattern for directions on how to get casting on!
Tree Cozy Pattern
Having trouble remembering how to cast on/off?  Start at http://knittinghelp.com to help you complete your project

10 ply yarn works best for fast knitting
4.5/5mm needles
Sizes needed in width: 34cm, (45cm, 114cm, 153cm)
CO 58 st (76st, 194st, 260st)
start knitting in 2x2 rib.
this will make your tree cozy especially stretchy and easier to fit on the tree.
Knit, changing colours every 10 rows or so for interest, until your cosy measures 60-70 cm.  Cast Off leaving a long tail to sew up your cozy onto the tree later.
We LOVE a personal touch.  If you'd like to make something fancier, feel free.  Last year we had "KIP 08" knitted on our prime location tree cosy.
Join us for a night of playful mischief planned one week before WWKiP or let us know you have a tree cosy for us and we'll arrange to get it!

Extreme Knit - Photo Competition

Extreme knit is an exciting new way to knit in public and to combine the art of knitting with your other interests and hobbies. Basically, it combines the thrills of outdoor activities and sport with the creative art of knitting. We think that this is ideally suited as an activity to raise the profile of World Wide Knit in Public Day.

You may have come across Extreme Ironing, which was actually inspired by knitting. After a hard day at a knitwear factory in Leicester, a worker faced a mountain of ironing at home. Preferring the idea of going out rock climbing, they decided to combine the two activities into a new extreme sport - thus, Extreme Ironing was born. Like ironing, knitting is usually a solitary activity that takes place in private. For Christchurch Knit in Public Day, we'd like to encourage you to take part in an Extreme Knit. The only limit to the activity is your imagination. We would however encourage you to plan carefully as knitting can be dangerous - needles, points, scissors and not forgetting the yarn itself...

So, if you're tramping, sailing, snowboarding, rock-climbing etc... don't forget to take your knitting and your camera to document your activities, We'd love to see what you've been up to. We have a prize for the most awesome photo of your Extreme Knit.

Entries will be judged anonymously, therefore you will need to submit your photo as a jpeg or tif as an attachment. Remember to put your name, address, telephone number and name of the knitter (if different) in the body of your email. Please mark the subject line of your e-mail 'Extreme Knit'.
No alterations may be made to a photo once it has been submitted.
Closing date for entries is 1st June 2009.
